Reducing Waste

Formed at the end of 2007 the local Friends of the Earth group has had significant success in reducing plastic bag usage in the town, through designing a town jute bag and securing funding from Cadwyn Clwyd to give one of the bags to each household in the town.

They also worked to encourage local retail businesses to use alternative carriers that do not create environmental problems. This has been successful, and over a 12 month period there is a very significant shift from plastic carriers to more sustainable forms.

The project included working with local schools to design the bag and was supported by the town council and Llangollen Partnership.
